julie’s teeny weeny goal vs. God’s EXTRAVAGANCE.

Well, if you’ve followed my last couple of blogs, you’ll see I had a very HUMAN Goal of raising $1000 to give where God leads in Ethiopia!! I guess HE has bigger plans, because the FLOOD has been drenching us here! My kids and I started making this graph after only 2 hours because we realized that we would reach our goal within a day! It was an awesome display of God’s outpouring and generosity through HIS people!! My kids were dancing in the living room and could NOT believe how much money was being offered to help those so in need!  The second day, they ran out in the morning anxious to see how high our graph had gone…and NOW look at it!! We are headed to ET in just 4 days with an ABUNDANCE…PRAISE HIM and thank you.

Floodgates!!!

GOD’S PEOPLE…

YOU have encouraged me so much over the past 2 days…I am in AWE of our great GOD…His generosity through YOU, and His provision!! Don’t you just LOVE Him?!? I want you all to know that you are a part of something I believe is SO close to God’s heart…caring and giving to the POOR is God’s HEART for His church…thank you thank you for being faithful to that call.  Dave and I have been BLOWN away…my kids and I made a graph, which I will attach–just for the pure JOY of it…we have BEEN REJOICING here in the Ayer home that GOD has POURED out!

IN LESS THAN 36 hours, God has poured out over $3000!!!! PRAISE GOD that my goals are also SO human compared to HIS extravagance! Praise God that so many of you gave so sacrificially and obediently.  Thank you for your commitment to PRAY and for all the encouraging testimonies of how God is working in you, in your churches, through adoption, through missions…I love you all!!

ALSO, a Korean Doctor here has contacted a Medical Supplies provider and they are DONATING almost $4,000 worth of NEEDED medical supplies that we will be taking with us to AHOPE!!!  Can you believe the ways God is moving…please be so encouraged!!

Here’s what I’ve been in  this morning (in a precious moment of quiet!)
The LORD commanded in Malachi 3:10

“Bring the WHOLE tithe into the STOREHOUSE, that there may be food in my house.TEST ME in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and SEE if I will not THROW OPEN THE FLOODGATES OF HEAVEN and POUR OUT so much BLESSING that you will not have room enough for it!”

Let’s TEST HIM, TRUST HIM, PRAY FOR THOSE RECEIVING THIS GIFT…
and SEE as HE TRANSFORMS lives, BLESSES and PROVIDES for HIS precious children in ETHIOPIA…
We have NO idea how far God can use this in Africa!!
I WILL report back before and after my trip…thank you for loving JESUS with me. I am SO encouraged. SO in Awe.
Joy (overflowing!!) in Jesus,

julie

PARTNERSHIP.

Written 12 January 2010.
Sweet Family and Friends,

IN 24 days, Evie and I will be departing for our FIRST (of many) PIONEER VOYAGE to Ethiopia!!  We have the opportunity to travel with two dear friends here who are adopting their second daughter from Ethiopia.  I will be visiting an incredible ministry in Addis called AHope–bringing HOPE to HIV positive orphans, helping them into FOREVER HOMES…PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO CHECK OUT their website and PRAY for these incredibly precious children who are so in need of the touch of Jesus….

THEN I will be traveling South–6-8 hours (with my 8 month old!!) to SODDO…this is where we have committed our hearts to ministry before the Lord, so I am humbled and in total awe that I have this opportunity to go and SEE the people that God has burdened us with…I will be visiting the Hospital (Soddo Christian Hospital) where Lord-willing, Dave will minister love and healing in just a couple years.  Also, where my heart has been for so long –I will be able to visit and love and pray over the sweet children in the orphanage and share Christ’s love and encouragement with some of the poorest of the poor…

I had a ‘rough’ day yesterday…just normal rough, but sick kids an maybe a bad attitude on my part.  Then, God rocked my world with a HUGE dose of perspective…i LOVE HIM for doing that.  Last night as I sat rocking Evie I was re-reading a blog (the precious woman who runs the orphanage in Soddo: http://thebowersinafrica.blog.com)  I read stories of orphans being abandoned…some finding HOPE and LIFE and RESTORATION…some going home to Jesus.  I read of their food distribution to some of the poorest people in their country…I read of a portion of a huge container shipment of ‘donated’ clothing and shoes being BURNED before the eyes of those who have NOTHING…How could this happen?  How can such evil reign in a land where people KNOW of Jesus?  My burden grew.

Will you PARTNER WITH ME?? Three years ago, Dave and I took our first ‘vision trip’ to Africa.  We went to many hospitals and orphanages in Kenya.  I was OVERWHELMED by the needs…some so basic and others were too huge to wrap my mind around.  I left knowing you can either be so overwhelmed you do nothing…you turn your eyes away and pretend you didn’t see or know the pain….OR you ask the LORD what you can do…maybe they are small things, but it may be that your ACTION can change the world for one or two people, or a family, or a village.
$5 seems like nothing…a trip to get a cup of coffee, a drive through–we don’t even think twice about it…but $5 can CHANGE A LIFE...this could be a surgery for a child or food for weeks for an Ethiopian family…So, here’s what I’m asking…would you GIVE out of the STOREHOUSES of what God has given to you?? Give what you can…give in JOY and obedience.  Give as little as you can or AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. “To whom much is given, much will be required.”

(IF YOU TRUST ME)  I will take ALL the donations and give to where GOD LEADS. I will GIVE ALL OF THE MONEY sent to me to either the orphanage or the hospital (for their benevolence fund–to provide life saving surgeries) or to AHOPE or other established organizations (there is also a newly founded Food Distribution ministry down near Soddo Hospital that I hope to visit)   that are seeking God’s heart to reach the poor in this country.    I don’t want to go unprepared and unequipped like I did to Kenya…I remember standing in the orphanage longing for $100 they needed for simple repairs.  I kept thinking of all the GENEROUS people and UNBELIEVABLE RESOURCES God has blessed us with…let’s SHARE SOME OF OUR ABUNDANCE with those who can’t even imagine where the provision will come from…What GLORY that will bring to our Father!!!     I was just praying and I sensed God giving me a huge challenge…to raise $1000 dollars in 24 days
(it is NOTHING to God, I know that, but your gifts and sacrifices will be honored before our merciful God–Giver of it all!)

A FUN Challenge: Dave and I are spending NO excess $ in January other than ‘necessary’ grocery and living items…would you consider joining us in that and give the excess to those who don’t have any?? PRAY, SEEK THE LORD and GIVE to those CLOSE TO HIS HEART!!!  I am the carrier :)…I am NOT raising $ for my ticket or trip at all–dave and I have that all covered…ANY OFFERINGS will be GIVEN IN TOTAL to those in NEED.

If you would PARTNER with me and feel led to support a certain ministry, just write it in the note on your check–I will be sure to deliver it to the designated ministry.  If you would EMAIL ME with the amount and then WRITE YOUR CHECK NOW AND PUT IT IN THE MAIL PLEASE…This 5 minute sacrifice could transform LIVES…

HERE’s MY SNAIL MAIL: Cpt. David Ayer/    Unit 15021 Box B221 /   APO/AP 96218     (**The reason I asked you to email me the amount is so I will take that $ regardless of if the snail mail arrives in time!! THANKS!!)

January 5th, 2010…a day of NEW LIFE AND CELEBRATION IN THE AYER HOUSEHOLD!!

Caleb, my incredible 5 year old, just accepted JESUS as His Lord and Savior today!! WE are so excited, thankful and in awe of God’s grace.  These moments as a mom are unmatched in my heart.  The years of praying and teaching and shepherding are worth everything to stand with your son in the moment he prays and KNOWS he has been chosen!

I have to share the story. (It is my prayer that many others will find the HOPE in Christ just as Caleb did this week!)  This year I ventured out into some new homeschooling territory–it’s a bit ecclectic and maybe a bit more work, but after homeschooling for a couple years there were certain things I had to find this year.  The biggest was a solid, Biblical, foundational Bible curriculum–I wanted one that focused on God’s Word, His purposes, His heart for His people in every nation.  I FOUND IT!! I thank God for Caleb Resources–they are faithful to proclaim God’s heart for the nations through all their resources. I found a curriculum promoted to be used in church settings alongside the Perspectives Course.  This curriculum for kids is called OUTSIDE THE LINES: Connecting Kids to God’s Global Purpose.  It is really set up to teach a large group of kids and includes CD/DVDs for all ages from Preschool to 8th grade…so it was an investment, but I felt really strongly that it might be just what I had been praying for…it is amazing!  The songs are all tied directly to the lessons and are straight Scripture passages, so my kids are singing God’s Word and hiding it in their hearts!! THEN–here in week 5, the curriculum teaches the ROMANS ROAD!!  I was too excited! So I tried to teach it on Monday night with Dave here and all the kids…but, it didn’t go so well…everyone was a little goofy. But, I felt the pressing of the Spirit to obedience to try again. So, Tuesday morning, this was my priority.  I made our own Romans Road with all the ‘road signs’ and Heaven was at the end, complete with beautiful candles…I was praying, asking God to move…

Romans 3 : 23 “For ALL have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.”

Romans 6 : 23a  “For the wages of sin is death…”

Romans 6 : 23b “BUT, the GIFT of God is ETERNAL life THROUGH Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 5 : 8  “God demonstrates His own love for us in this; that while we were still sinners, Christ died for US.”

Romans 10 : 9  “If you confess with your mouth, JESUS IS LORD! And believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you WILL BE SAVED!”

John 1 : 12  “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to BECOME CHILDREN OF GOD…”

Each ‘sign’ along the way had a picture…the most powerful are the ones showing the vast gap that our sin has caused between people and God…there is NO WAY to reach Him UNTIL Christ Jesus dies on the cross forming a bridge over that gap–giving us access to the HOPE and security of ETERNAL LIFE with our Father.  I think this picture is what helped Caleb understand his need for Jesus.  He has always had a very special spirit, especially towards things of God, but throughout this last year–his journey has been one of deepening his understanding.  He could say all the right answers, but would articulate that he didn’t really understand why Jesus had to die and why he needed a Savior.  As we talked I explained on a kid level how Jesus took a punishment that WE deserved.  Then we talked about Heaven–how beautiful it will be, how amazing to be in God’s presence…to worship, to never cry or say good bye.  Caleb was thinking. He didn’t respond, but at the end I told them how they could ask Jesus to come into their hearts and I prayed an example prayer with them.  I told them they could pray it anywhere, anytime they were ready, but to PLEASE tell mommy and daddy so we could rejoice with them and help them!  So, we finished our time in prayer and the kids ran off to the next event.  I felt a bit confused. I thought he was there…in God’s timing.  I knew I had been faithful to what God had called me to for that day…so off to make eggs.

About 30 minutes later, Caleb emerged from his room grinning, “Mommy, I was just thinking…”

Of course I stopped and got down at eye level,  “What were you thinking about?”

“Oh, I can’t tell you,” he said giggling.

I put my ear up to his mouth and told him just to whisper it to me.

He said, “Mommy, I’m ready!”

My heart leaped and my eyes filled with joy…isn’t this the moment we pray for?!

“I want to accept Jesus.”

So, we were teary together as Caleb prayed a simple but profound prayer as he entered God’s kingdom.

“God, thank you for everything you have made.  THANK YOU THAT I AM YOUR CHILD. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Later in the day, I was reading a book while trying to exercise!! In it was a God-ordained quote for our special day from J.I. Packer…

“If you want to judge how well a person understands Christianity, find out how much he makes of the thought of being God’s child, and having God as his father. If this is not the thought that prompts and controls his worship and prayers and his whole outlook on life, it means that he does not understand Christianity very well at all.  For everything that Christ taught, everything that makes the New Testament new and better than the Old, everthing that is distinctively Christian, is summed up in the knowledge of the Father hood of God the Father.”

We celebrated. A lot. In fact we have been all week…Caleb called Daddy, called Tera, called Leah, called Nanna & Boppa…he wanted to call more, but no one was home…so we kept celebrating!

Later in the day, he came out of his room again, his bright eyes more radiant than ever and now filling with tears.  He giggled again, “Mommy, I just keep thinking about Jesus…I’m all teary but I feel like laughing all at the same time!”  I told him that’s exactly how I felt too.

That night we had a ROYAL dinner…we all dressed like princesses and princes. It was perfect by God’s grace.

Every morning since then, Caleb has come out in the morning with a sweet spirit…He says, “Mommy, I was just laying in my bed thinking about Heaven.”  He has kept my eyes on eternal things all week.  I am loving being this precious one’s mommy.

I am praising our my Savior that Caleb understands the most profound truth–that he was created and CHOSEN by his loving Father in Heaven–and that HE IS A CHILD OF GOD…

Erin - Praise GOD!! Thanks for sharing this fantastic, more-important-than-anything-else-in-my-day news!! We love you!

Ariele - I’m so glad you shared this great news. I don’t know why I didn’t do the same for my kids when they committed their lives to Him! I need to at least write their story for their scrap books. Love and miss you much.
